Dear Doctor my mother aged 75 years was admitted in ahospital and she was administered urinary cathetar. Later on she complaint of chilly fever and was diagnosed having UTI. She is on antibiotics since last 2 months but every time after 15 days of medication urine culture shows pus cells in between 40-50. Could you please advise me whether she would be cured and how much time she has to take antibiotics. Is there any life threat because of infection? Regards
For recurrent urinary tract infection, I suggest you investigate with urine culture to choose antibiotic according to causative organism.
Meanwhile, rule out diabetes as well because diabetes can be a causative factor for recurrent UTI. Drink more water and avoid intake of excess spicy foods. Cranberry juice extract tablet useful.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
