Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What is the drug flecainide given for; what purpose? I thought it was a blood thinner but now told it isn t. I was diagnosed with atrial fib in August of this year and put on Coumadin and Flecainide. The Flecainide caused several side effects including but not limited to dizziness, fainting, chest pressure, weight gain, claminess, etc. After two weeks of relating this to my cardiologist was finally taken off of it this past Friday. How long before it is out of my system?
Flecainide is an antiarrhythmic drug or in simple terms,it is a drug used to prevent your heart from beating in a disorderly fashion. Its half life is 12-27 hours meaning that amount of flecainide in your body reduces to half the amount in 12-27hours.So by around 3-5 days of stopping the drug, you will have only negligible amount of flecainide in your body.
