Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told by a clinic that my son fractured his thumb in the distal bone section. They gave me his films and told me to take him to an orthopedic doctor tomorrow. Right now he only has a small metal brace on it that will not stay on...will it hurt his thumb if I put some tape around the splint? What is usually done for a fractured thumb?

HI WELCOME TO HEALTHCAREMAGIC
If the fracture is open, it needs cleaning and debridement then splitting with braces for 4-6 weeks.
If the fracture is closed, it needs reduction of angulation and then splitting with braces for 4-6 weeks.
