Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I wanted to know how you feel about children's shoes? Specifically for a 3 1/2 year old. I understand once in a while but today my daughter was walking around the house in one inch heels and eventually started running. She basically rolled her ankle twice without injury and fell once. I'm not usually the over protective one growing with three brothers boxing, football, surfing, hockey skateboarding. I'm 45 and still. Very active but I know what all all the injuries long term are not good and see no reason for a less stable shoe at this age.
Children should wear a comfortable, flat, non slippery and stable footwear of perfect size so that they can walk and run comfortably without tripping and stumbling. Between the age of 3-6yrs children's feet grow an average of 1mm in length per month or can say 1/2inch per year, but footwear should not be too big. A sandal with open toes can be a good option for regular purpose as it provide a room for the toes.
