What Leads To Bright Red Nipples In A Child?
what would cause bright red nipples of a seven year old girl who is very healthy, athletic, not overweight? It came on suddenly after swimming daily in a northern michigan lake and she complains they hurt only when she swims....they are not tender to touch but water does seem to bring the bright red to play even while showering. the other parts of the breast area are not engorged or showing any signs of early breast development...just the bright, cherry red on the tips of each nipple.

If noticed suddenly after swimming, this might be skin irritation from contact with a contaminated water. Just apply some emollients for 3-5 days. Hopefully this will disappear by then. If persisting or progressing, we can evaluate further.
