What Medical Tests Should Be Done To Diagnose HIV?
I had contacted an online agency for blood collection for health package. They sent a person to draw blood sample. All the reports were in specified limits. I suspect that the person who has drawn blood had used infected needle. I am getting frequent cough, fever, body pain and other ars symptoms. I did hiv combo test after 25 days after this. and the report is negative. Whether further testing is required?. Please advise.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Usually, laboratory personnel uses a new sterile needle for every blood collection. Nowadays the re-usage of the syringe is not at all advisable. HIV virus can't survive in air for much time. So chances of HIV are very less. Usually, combo test is preferred after 4-6 week of exposure.
So, you can repeat the test after 6 weeks if desired. It's also advisable to investigate again after three months of exposure, according to WHO guidelines. (but your chance of HIV is very less).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
