What Medication Should I Take For Painful Boil On Waist?
i got a boil on my waist two days back. i have been suffering from severe pain since then. i have been applying hot water cloth n it which helped me in draining it today but still the pain and swelling persists. kindly suggest which antibiotic, if at all i should use and the dosage for the same.
Boils or furuncle are actually bacterial infection of/ about the hair follicles often associated with surrounding cellulitis.
If I was the treating doctor I would have advised an oral antibiotic for a week (My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg, thrice daily for a week. One such combination is a popular brand marketed by GSK in India i.e Augmentin 625 mg).
An OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% Mupirocin twice daily can be applied over the boil. Along with oral antibiotics, it would hasten the resolution of infection.
An OTC pain killer e.g Ibuprofen 400mg (bruffen tablets) twice or thrice daily, would provide symptomatic relief from pain and swelling.
I hope this answers your query.
