What Medicine Should Be Given To Baby Having Diarrhea, Loose Bowel Movement?

hi der,I'd like to ask bcause my baby having diarrhea for 1 1/2 day/s, because she have eaten a viand with coconut milk yesterday as for her breakfast, she is 2 years old, then yesterday afternoon she starts having loose bowel movement, physically is she is active, playing alot en driking lots of fluid which is really good, what might be the best medicine or any cure I can give my baby to stop her diarrhea?thanks..

Hello,

Your daughter has diarrhea since 11/2 days. The best treatment for diarrhea is to give oral rehydration solution. You can buy ORS powder from market and make it at home. You can also give her home made solutions like lassi with salt, salt+sugar+lemon solution. Keep giving her this solution as much as she can drink and after each episode of loose motion.

I will also advice you to give her any syrup which contains zinc (20 mg once a day) for 14 days. Giving her zinc will not only help in this episode of diarrhea but will also boost her immunity.

There is no medicine which can immediately cure diarrhea. It will last for 5-7 days. The most important thing in diarrhea is to maintain adequate hydration so keep giving her rehaydration solutions. Take her to a doctor immediately if she develops any of these symptoms- not taking fluids orally, repeated vomiting, blood in stools, not passing urine at least once in 6 hours/4 times a day, lethargic, sunken eyes.
