What Might Cause A Sudden Rise In Liver Enzyme Levels Despite Lifestyle Changes And Medication?

Hi, My sgot and sgpt values are 273 and 253 while checking on 26.09.2022. Rechecked on 29.09.2022 sgot is 236 and sgpt is 227 and bilirubin is 1.5. Hbsag and hcv are non reactive. Ultrasound study shows hepatomegaly with fatty changes. Doctor prescribed udiliv 300 twice a day and bilyspa 4mg once a day. On 09.10.2022 sgot is 274 and sgpt 370. On 10.10.2022 sgot 394 and sgpt 501. I quit alcohol and not taking oily/fatty foods from the day I start medicine. What is the reason for sudden elevation in values after the medication?

Hello,

The most common causes liver enzymes to be elevated are fatty liver disease, excessive use of hepatotoxic over-the-counter medications, or other herbal and dietary supplements, and viral hepatitis. There are other causes too such as liver toxins, infections, autoimmune inflammation of the liver, or cancer. When liver cells are injured by any cause, the blood level of these proteins may rise. Injured liver cells may take time to repair depending upon the intensity of damage.

The liver can repair itself if the factor that caused the injury is corrected. You are advised to drink boiled water after cooling it. Take boiled food, it is healthy & it will help liver recover faster. Take lean meat cooked in olive oil. Avoid fried food, packaged food, processed food, high fat dairy products, refined flour, limit carbohydrate intake. Take veggies, berries, fruits, nuts, seeds, lentils, whole cereals after cooking it well. Avoid eating anything raw.

Take digestive, liver tonics and food good for the liver. Avoid smoking, alcohol or addiction if any. Be careful of what medicine you are taking. Maintain heathy weight and avoid sedentary life. Taking 8 hours of sleep, helps repair liver faster. Stay on strict diet control and healthy lifestyle. Do liver function tests every 40-50 days. Your liver enzyme level should get better and towards normal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
