What Precaution Needed For A Hypothyroid Pregnant Woman?

All of yu gd mrng.sir. This is writing for my wife. She is suffering from Hypothyrodism last 04 years and also taking Thyronorm-50mg. Her age is 21 Yrs. Now she is pregnant. What precautions to take in the pregnancy period? Can continue the Thyronorm or not?

Hello,
Good day. Congratulations.
Hypothyroidism need to be well treated in pregnancy to keep TSH less than 2.5 during the first three months and less than 3 during rest of pregnancy. You may need to increase the dose of thyronorm to 75 mcg now.
Baby's brain is so much dependent on mother's thyroid hormone now and hence it is importat to keep TSH less than 2.5. Apart from this, try to eat food with sufficient iodine content like seafood and use iodized salt. Avoid excess intake of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and radish.
Check TSH and Free T4 after 4 weeks of changing the dose of Thyronorm.
