Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here.. I am pregnant having fifth month. My sister is going to have thallium heart scan.I am staying at her home. What precautions should i take once she comes back home after thallium heart scan.
Hello Welcome to Health Care Magic. To avoid unnecessary radiation exposure to others, following precautions are necessary your sister should avoid spending more than three hours a day in close contact with pregnant women for three days. Sleep apart from children or pregnant women for one week. It is fine for you to be further than one meter from your sister at any time after scan Through the natural process of radioactive decay, the small amount of radioactive chemical will lose its radioactivity over time. It may also pass out of your sister's body through urine or stool (feces) during the first few hours or days following the test. Your sister may be instructed to take special precautions after urinating, to flush the toilet twice and to wash hands thoroughly.
Hope this information helps you. Best wishes.
