Hello there, thanks for posting your query. I understand that you consulted for pre conceptional care. But if you are having regular menstrual cycles, I would say just take daily
folic acid 5 mg tablets as a prenatal vitamin and get your thyroid profile ( TSH and free T4) and
haemoglobin tested. If both tests are normal, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
But if your cycles are irregular and come once in a while and if you suffer spotting or heavy
irregular periods, you could be having
polycystic ovaries where an excess of male hormones stops eggs from growing and this can make
pregnancy difficult. If this is the scenario, you probably may need help, like tablets or injections to help egg release. But mind you, pcos needs some more lab tests like
glucose tolerance test for evaluation and its appropriate that you consult a
fertility specialist for proper management of the same if you are trying to conceive for a long time.
Pcos can be modified to an extent by maintaining weight in the normal range by diet and exercise. And the level of difficulty to conceive is difficult to assess and depends on how severe the hormonal imbalance is. Women with pcos can conceive at once with treatment or they may fail to conceive even with ivf.
Hope your query has been answered satisfactorily. Take care.
