What Should Be Done For Bleeding During Bowel Movements While On Aspirin?

My mom has had knee surgery and is on aspirin so that she doesn’t get blood clots. She often has hard stool that causes bleeding and is worried about taking the aspirin if she starts bleeding from her stool being hard. She is taking fiber to help but she is just worried about if it happens what she will have to do

Hello,

Hard stools itself cause mucosa abrasions lead to blood loss. Take high fibre diet, avoid spicy food and alcohol. Use benefiber or metamucil fiber for bulk formation of stools. If bleeding is heavy under your doctor guidence you may stop antiplatelet under your doctor guidance. Use syrp lactulose thirty ml after dinner for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
