Hello,
Experts agree there is an actual limit of how much Over the Counter (OTC) medication a person should take ABOVE WHICH the use of that
analgesic begins to cause what we call REBOUND
HEADACHES.
In other words, the constant use of the medication will lead to headaches the person never would've had had they not taken so much on an ongoing basis.
I'm afraid you may be overusing the
ibuprofen from your description and this may be causing your headaches to become more intense and makes it more difficult for at least SOMEONE to properly treat them.
You should seek out a headache specialist who will identify these headaches as being of some type (
migraine, tension-type,
occipital neuralgia, etc.) and determine the best course of action.
Just taking more and more OTC medication is only going to make things more difficult to treat and as I said could complicate things.
The doctor may choose to get an imaging study of the brain as well such as an MRI.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
