Hi,

Irregular periods can be seen due to many causes like:
- Poly cystic ovarian disease
- Thyroid hormonal imbalance, Prolactin levels abnormality
- General causes like anemia, blood sugar fluctuations, weight changes etc.

Meprate contains medroxy progesterone, which will help in inducing menstrual flow by the withdrawal effect on the endometrium and also in regularization of hormonal levels to some extent. But as you have had the problem for 5 years from menarche, you need thorough evaluation.

Please consult your gynecologist once, get examined and go for investigations like:
- Complete blood picture
- Blood sugar levels
- Thyroid profile
- Serum prolactin levels
- Estrogen, Progesterone, FSH and LH levels.
- Ultrasound.
With this work-up the exact cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly.

The general measures that can help you are:
- Healthy, balanced, regular dietary habits
- Regular calorie burning exercises
- Maintaining normal Body mass index, etc.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
