What Should I Do As My 1 Year Old Is Diagnosed With Stage 5 Reflux And Echogenic Kidneys?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My little girl is 1 year old. A Dr is say that her kidneys are the same color gray on the ultra sound and she has stage 5 reflux & echogenic kidneys. Is there anything we should be doing?
I understand your concern. It's unfortunate that your child has issues with the kidney. I will help you to clear your doubts and guide you further management.
Stage 5 reflux disease is something which needs to be attended as early as possible. MCU (Micturition Cysto Urethrogram) will give a better idea about the grade of reflux and DMSA scan may be required to assess how much of kidney been affected. She needs to be on uroprophylaxis (medicines to prevent urinary tract infection) till reflux disease is corrected.
For Stage 4 and Stage 5 reflux disease, surgical management will be the treatment of choice. I would recommend you to consult a pediatric surgeon or pediatric urologist for management of reflux disease and follow up with pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
