What Should The Normal TSH Level Be When Trying To Conceive?
hello. i am 29 yrs old and i am trying to get pregnant. my tsh level last month was 4.5
my family doctor says its nothing to worry about, and i should keep trying. From my readings on the internet i understand that a tsh of 4.5 is to high to concieve. what do you think
Hello, I carefully read your concern and I am trying to give you some more information regarding TSH level and conception. TSH 4.5 is a bit high and suggest a mild hypothyroidism. One of the factors reported to be a cause of infertility is the high TSH level. It is suggested that the TSH should be about 2.5 in order to exclude the thyroid as a cause of infertility. If you were a patient in my clinic I would suggest you to start a low dose of levothyroxine (25 mcg) and to check the TSH after 6 weeks. Women that are diagnosed with hypothyroidism prior to pregnancy and have positive antiTPO antibodies, is suggested to check the TSH level at each trimester of pregnancy. So you have to be a bit careful even during pregnancy. Hope you have the information required. Best regards,
