What Steps To Take To Bring High BP To Normal Level?
Hello, My dad is recently having high Bp, the doctors have prescribed him medicine but its not helping. He has habit of chewing gutka and drinking alcohol everyday. Please advice what steps to be taken to bring BP to normal levels and how to get rid of this awful habit of chewing gutka
Hi and welcome to HCM. Hypertension or High BP is very common after 35 years. Your dad is already on medications and its expected his BP to be under control. But if its not happening, then consult his doctor and he may change his medications to combination drugs. Other measures to control BP are 1. Lose extra weight 2. Regular physical activity — at least 30 to 60 minutes most days of the week — can lower your blood pressure by 4 to 9 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) 3. eat healthy diet like foods rich in potassium (banana), restrict salt, cut down fatty foods 4. Limit or stop alcohol consumption 5. Avoid tobacco products like gutka, cigars Please contact a local doctor and he advice how to come out of gutka habit, he may suggest a chewable nicotene gum (nicorette). if it wont helps then he may refer him to deaddiction center. All the best, Regards. Dr Santosh
