Streptokinase is a thrombolytic medication used to dissolve blood clots that are formed in the blood vessels of the heart, lungs or in the legs causing myocardial infarction (heart attack), pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis respectively. Whereas streptoquin contains clioquinol, homatropine, sulfathiazole and streptomycin as active ingredients and is commonly prescribed to treat infections like diarrhea and intestinal amebiasis, caused by susceptible bacteria and protozoa.
Based on the history your wife seems to be suffering from diarrhea caused by intestinal infections for which her doctor prescribed streptoquin. Let her continue to take the prescribed treatment along with oral rehydration solution like electral to prevent dehydration.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
