Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother, 85 years old developed allergic cough about a year back and we showed her to two or specialists who had prescrobed mouth spray like 'simply one' and formaldyne or so. We have been giveing her all through the period and effect was almost nil. over above we had given her lozengers and cough syrups to subside the cough. The side effect was being a diabetic her blood sugar shot up and she is under pills. We had now stopped all sugar base cough syrups and lozengers and give only sugar free cough syrup. As a result of high blood sugar 2++ (PP) she is very weak and we started giving eldervit 12 injection as prescribed by doctor once a week. First injection was given last sunday and five more injections to continue in the weeks to come. Her weakness still continues. We are vegetarians and her intake is very low. How to sort out the problems. Grateful if you could kindly send in your advice. My email: nagups @ WWW.WWWW.WW

General & Family Physician, Dr. Amarnath's Response
welcome to hcm, As she is a diabetic having control of the blood sugar first is the first thing to do first. if it is not controlled by oral medications she is advised for a short course insulin regimen. many of the cough syrups contain expectorants which itself will cause dry cough. so it is not advisable. a short course of antihistamines may be needed. hope this finds useful with regards Dr.Amarnath
