My sister has just been diagnosed with microbacteria infection in her lungs with an abscess. After months of tests and biopsies that has been the diagnosis at university of Penn. she is looking for another opinion do you know any infectious disease specialist that are highly rated in the New Jersey New York Pennsylvania area?
Thanks for your question on HCM. Mycobacterial infection in lung is known as tuberculosis. And once it is confirmed then you should start treatment as early as possible. Treatment consists of 2 phases. 1. Intensive phase 2. Continuation phase. In intensive phase 4 drugs are given. Rifampicin (R), Isoniazid (H), Pyrazinamide (P) and Etambutol (E). These drugs should be given daily according to your weight for 2 months. Then in continuation phase 2 drugs HR are given for 4 months. So duration of treatment is minimum 6 months. So better to consult pulmonologist and start treatment according to your weight, as soon as possible.
