What To Do For Swollen Ankles After A Car Accident?
I was in a car accident about 10 days ago. I received a sizable hematoma on my left shin during the accident. Over the last four or five days i have noticed my foot and ankle becoming swollen. Currently it appears to b almost covered in swelling and bruising. Should I be concerned?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. first line of treatment is RICE Because ankles swell to an extreme level after severe trauma, such as would occur in a car or motorcycle accident, it can be difficult for even experienced medical practitioners to determine the extent of the damage at first inspection. In addition, the pain that accompanies such injuries makes it difficult for doctors to assess the damage that has been done. It could be days, or even weeks, before an accurate assessment can be made. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
