What To Do If 12 Yr Old Male Is Diagnosed With Gynacomastia While On Vyvanse?
My 12 yr old son was just diagnosed with gynacomastia in one breast. He takes Vyvanse but I am reading it s not a known side effect of the drug. I m assuming it is puberty and hopefully he will grow out of it or at least degrow to the same size as the other eventually. He will have his follow up with our doctor soon, I think I am just looking for reassurance that it is indeed normal for young boys.
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
If I were your family physician, I would go for a re assurance for you and your son. This is a normal feature at this age with many boys who are stepping into their adolescence due to the hormonal disbalance. I am hopeful that this is not due the drug, but if it goes on increasing you may have to consult your neurologist/treating doctor. In physiological gynaecomazia, wait and watch policy is applied with some counseling for the child. Once he grows up to adulthood, this might subside, and in case of persistance and too much anxiety, one can go for a plastic surgical cosmetic surgery at that time if need be.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your son's problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
