What To Do If BP Medication Was Changed To Terazosin When Prazosin Worked Well?

My blood pressure medication was changed from prasozin (mini-press) to terazosin for cost reasons per my health plan. I am a 63 year old african american female. I ve taken minipress and it works well for me 118/76. I do not want to change my medication. My doctor nor the pharmacy discussed this with me, I did not realized that my med had changed until after my daughter picked up my refill. I don t fill comfortable taking a med that is also for prostate. Forget it! I don t want to join nor have the money, Thank you.

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr. Kalpesh Kavar, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Prazocin and Terazosin both are having same actions - both are all alpha adrenergic receptor blockers. Both drugs are useful in the treatment of high blood pressure and in Males for symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
The most important difference amongst both drugs is their duration of action.
Terazocin is having longer duration of action which is greater than 18 hours and needs to be taken only once daily and will be controlling BP entire day.

So I would say there is no need to worry if You will be having Terazosin, your blood pressure will be under control as it was with Prazosin.

I hope this helps you. I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided.
Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.
