What To Do If Am Diabetic And Having Pain And Swelling In Both Feet After A Long Drive?
I have swelling & pain in both feet, ankles, and legs after a 5 hr car trip. It has continued for 7 days now. I went to the ER last night, and was prescribed 25 mg of HCTZ, one a day for 7 days. What caused this and will it happen again? What can I do to prevent this? Is this some type of underlying condition? I need to travel frequently between GA and NC. This has never happened before. I am diabetic. I am concerned because the trip back to GA was 5 days ago.
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Sir swelling of foot, occurs with any abnormal renal conditions usually. Some times as in your case, while being in sitting position for a long time, due to some vascular changes and gravity swelling occurs. The medication you are using is effective in reducing the swelling of legs.
Coming to your 2nd concern, during the drive back, try to give gap for every 1hr during which get down the car and walk for about 5-10 minutes. This might help you. After getting back to your place, have a complete evaluation of renal status.
Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you. Dr Phanindra Dulipala Diabetologist.
