Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Treatment Do You Suggest For A Painful Swelling Due To An Accident ?
Almost 3 weeks ago, My 20 month old fell, hitting his forehead with direct impact on the corner of a nightstand. After the initial goose egg went away, I noticed about 1 week ago that he has soft, spungy swelling that starts int the middle of his forehead and moves upward toward the skull. If pressed, he does say it hurts. I notified the pediatrician and was told to watch him since he has had no symptoms whatsoever otherwise since the fall, and she seems to think it is still healing. Should we get a CT scan to evaluate the swelling? Especially since it has been almost 3 weeks ago. Or how LOng should we expect this to heal and go away? I am a nurse myself so of course, I'm thinking the worse regarding brain bleeds or swelling.
After going through your queries i suggest you to not panic and be calm.
Due to H/O trauma direct to forhead most probably there will be heamtoma which is causing the swelling .
This swelling is freely mobile so this can be desolve by medicines .
If there is no other symptoms beside pain then there is not so worry about that.AS child age is very early this swelling can resolve with time .
For precautionary reason i suggest you to go for CT SCAN ,
For this you can visit a neurosurgeon to help you more clear and better.
Hope this help you do let me know,
Best wishes for health of your child and yourself both
