What Treatment Is Advisable For Cataracts And Multiple Myeloma?
My dad had an appointment today with his eye doctor. He has Multiple Myeloma and was told by his eye doctor he may have cataracts due to maybe a shortage of oxygen. He will be getting a bone marrow stem cell transplant sometime this year,. What is the normal treatment for a patient with cataracts who has multiple myeloma?
Cataract , irrespective of the cause, is managed by surgical intervention that is cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation. The various techniques which are used to remove the cataract lens includes small incision cataract surgery, phacoemulsification. or the recent flacs. There are various of types of intraocular lenses which can be implanted. So there is no relation between multiple myeloma and the progression or management of cataract but radiation given for the same may accelerate the progression of cataract. Regards
