What Treatment Should We Do For A Cerebral Attack Patient ?
hi, my aunt(68yrs) had two blockages ,and she underwent angioplasty but after 5 days she had a cerebral attack ,and now is in coma , so what type of treatment we should opt for. plz rep.

If she is in a coma then i guess she will be in the ICU on a ventilator if not for respiratory reasons then for airway protection atleast. Since she underwent angioplasty i am guessing she is having a hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy. There are not much treatment options for HIE, she has to recover on her own and it take a long time, usually more than 3 to 6 weeks

Your aunt must ve suffered from a stroke by what i understand by your description of "cerebral attack", but if she is in coma now, the reason for her to go into coma at that time can be due to many different reasons like electrolyte disturbances, very low or very high blood sugar levels, very low blood oxygen levels, a bleed into brain or diminished blood supply to vital centers in the brain. Since there are many causes for one to go to coma, so are the treatment options depending upon the cause. But if a person is in coma for a significant period of time it might not be due to correctable causes, and as Dr Rakesh Madhyastha said if has hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, i am afraid she doesn't ve a many treatment options except supportive care and some neuroprotective agents.
