What Will Be The Treatment For My Complications Involving Severe Acute Pancreatitis?
I was diagnosed with sever acute pancreatitis and treated for it 4 months ago with percutaneous Cather drainage. I was told that the drains will be draining for few weeks to months . It s being 4 months and I am having around 30ml of fluid draning from both drains which is amylase rich. What will be the treatment for my complications ?
Post severe acute pancreatitis, you are experiencing percutaneous catheter draining amylase rich fluid for 4 months. Your symptoms may be indicative of pancreatic pseudocyst leakage or ductal disruption. Low and high pancreatic amylase drainage may be associated with pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis. Upon getting clinically examined by a GP, you will be given conservative medical treatment with paracentesis if required.
If you do not respond to medical therapy, interventional therapy that includes endoscopic transpapillary pancreatic duct stenting or surgery could be needed. Surgery will depend on the severity of your underlying condition. Get treated before symptoms worsen.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
