What Would Be The Normal Range For TSH After Thyroid Cancer Treatment?

I'm female, 61 yrs of age. In April 1986. when Chernobyl disaster happened... I happened to be in the former Yugoslavia. The radioactive fallout was everywhere. In '95. I operated a Hurthle cell malignant tumor of the thyroid gland. I have been taking Eltroxin 0,175 mg.for the last 15 and a half years .My TSH = 0,6 Tg = 0,2 and the ultrasound in June was ok. What is my optimum TSH after more than 15 years of the thyroid cancer operation ? Thank you. Mrs. D. B. New York

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and thank you for asking on HCM!
Sorry to learn about your history.
Usually we recommend TSH under 1 mUi/ml.during the first five years.
If you have not had any problem since than you are considered healthy and there is no point to maintain such low TSH levels.
You may talk to your treating physician about the possibility of lowering the dose of levothyroxine and raise the TSH level up to 2.5 mUi/ ml.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
