Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just been contacted by a friend who has recently travelled from the UK to Africa. She is complaining about a sudden deep pain in her leg, which she later felt up in her thigh. She is worried about the possibility of a clot and doesn t have any emergency contact in the remote area she is in. What in particular would signify clotting?
Signs suggestive of a clot are as follows: - Discoloration of the leg that is hurting - Increase in thickness of the leg 1.5 times the size of the opposite leg - Pain in the calf or on standing on tip toes I would suggest that your doctor try to get to a clinic that has the capacity to do ultrasounds as this can detect whether or not she has a clot in her leg
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
