When Can I Start Doing Normal Activities After Repairing Broken Lower Distal Fibula?

Greetings: My right lower distal fibula is broken. I am looking for an orthopedic specialist in the area of distal fibula repair and care. Best angle for RICE and how often? Can I lay on my side with pillows in-between? Can I lay on my stomach with pillows proper up to keep the leg up? I would like to see healthy bone, muscles, etc. and back to normal (if not more) activities. Outcomes of no-surgery and surgery, physical therapy. Any estimated timeline when will I be able to walk, swim, run, jump, aerobics, walk stairs, bike ride, ski, ice-skate, ocean swimming, diving, trampoline, hike smooth bike-jog trails, hike mountains, hike rocky areas, soccer, etc.? Many thanks!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for writing your query
After going through the detail description of yours. If it is a stable type of fracture with minimal displacement and maintenance of ankle mortise that is joint margin I usually prefer nonsurgical method that is by cast. After the cast you are allowed to sleep the way in which you are comfortable. It usually takes 8-12 weeks for union and consolidation. So you may be able to perform all the activities as mentioned by you.
Take balanced diet rich in calcium (1000mg/day) and vitamin D (1000 i.u. /day).
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query with x ray picture.
