When Can I Swim And Resume Intercourse After A Stent Placement For A Kidney Stone, And Is It Normal To Have Mild Pain Or Discomfort?
Hello. Im female age 25. I have a 4/5mm kidney stone in ureter. I had yesterday a stent put inside. My question is, when I can go to the pool and can I have intercourse after a week of procedure? Also, will always be there a mild pain or discomfort? Can stone pass if I have the stent near it ?
It is normal to experience mild pain / flank pain, discomfort, bladder spasms, and blood in urine while on stent. Drink plenty of fluids to stay comfortable and to ensure that urine is draining. If there is a string on your stent, be careful, do not get it pulled. You are advised to avoid sex if there is string on the stent as doing sex may cause the stent to get dislodged. If there is no string, you can have sex but not prolonged aggressive sex.
Prolonged sexual activity can increase stent discomfort. Avoid strenuous exercise whilst the stent is in place. Walking and gentle bike riding or swimming should not cause problem. It is important to avoid strenuous activities and sports while the stent is in place. There may be more discomfort or bleeding with more activity. The pain / bleeding will improve with rest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
