When Can Contact Lens Be Worn Again After Having Keratitis?

Hello my name is Mona. I am 24 yrs old female. yesterday I was diagnosed of keratitis from contact lenses not from excessive use but coz I didnâ??t follow hygiene procedure i.e. .never changed solution till it became very dirty, never replaced lenses till it started to itch and move inside my eye ,never boiled the cans, used to leave the solution open and always topped over the old solution ..yeap I did all that, but I learned my lesson now. my condition isnâ??t acute it is just uncomfortable: I have blurry vision and my eyelid is dropping down a little (like in sleepy eyes)any ways ,I am on drops now for 2 weeks( Tobradex and Naphcon-A),my q is, the doctor told me it is better I donâ??t use contacts again since the cornea(not mine.. cornea in general) may be vulnerable for having keratitis again but I am a model and in fashion biz so I really canâ??t NOT wear them again ,but I want to know if I followed the right procedures for having â??em (like changing them monthly ,boiling cans, not wear them more than 6-8 hours for 5 day a week),will that be ok for my cornea?. Another q: when can I start wearing contacts again after I am healed? Thanks a lot

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having contact lens induced keratitis.
Once the keratitis is healed completely which usually takes 1-2 months depending on the severity of the condition, you can wear the contact lens. But you should take appropriate precautions to prevent the infection again.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
