When Can Walking Be Resumed After A Calf Muscle Injury?

I recently cut my calf with as I went to open a rolled carpet with my gardening scissors. I had 5 staples put in by ER over a month ago and approx. 10 days ago had them replaced with dissolve stitches. The ER room suggested seeing a specialist if it did not heal. After explaining I had no insurance and can afford no more dept, the doctor did inform me muscles can heal by themselves if taken care of properly.

My question after over a month of not walking. (simply for the reason the upper back of my lower let does not work) is am I on the right path? I don't want seek help because I assure you, I can not afford it. But if anyone could help me know what is good for recovery and what can hurt my recovery I would really appreciate it.
