When Having Periods Have Uncontrolled Anger. Emotionally Depressed. Suggestions?
About every three months when my 16 year old daughter is on her period she has outburst of uncontrolled anger. It has been towards her step father and I, but tonight it was towards her friends. To the point she was in a fight. She is out of control when it happens and she won't let you walk away. She also seems very emotional and depressed during this time
From the history you mention it is possible that your daughter suffers from what is known as pre-menstrual syndrome. These symptoms usually present a few days before menstruation and start resolving slowly once the flow decreases. The symptoms are low mood, irritability, becoming emotionally sensitive, changes in appetite and sleep etc. These symptoms, if left untreated may develop into a depressive illness in later adulthood. Kindly consult a psychiatrist to seek the right treatment.
Hope this helps, Dr A Rao
