When Is It Best To Start Using Birth Control Pills?

hi,I just got into birth con control and the visit with my doctor was a little quick, but i was wondering, now that i got a hold of my birth control pills how should i start using it?.. some people tell me to do it on the first day of my period.. what do you recomend?
