Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been on 50 mg s of methadone for form july 2014-april 2015. Then i detoxed down to 40 mg s, which is what I ve been on for 4 months. yesterday 8-6-15 was my last dose. When will it be safe to take suboxone films & how much should I start out with? Also could i take percocet in the mean time to avoid withdrawl?
wow, I'm getting a question from AUGUST (5 months ago). The rough estimate is 3 days at a minimum on the methadone. Since that is about the lowest methadone dose I've seen from a methadone program, the lower timing is probalby fine. 3 days. The problem of course is that suboxone blocks narcotic receptors. This causes withdrawal if narcotics are in the system (over a day for methadone, about 12-24 hrs for short acting). While percocet is an effective bridge, it sets up several bad consequences and really should be avoided.
