Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I had a VP shunt revision early this year, since then I have been having pains in my abdominal area which at times are unbearable. I have visited as gynecologist and it s been noticed after a scan that my tubing of my shunt is going in to my pouch of Douglas and I have a considerable amount of fluid In my stomach. My question is where should the shunt stop? Because in the past i thought it had been made clear to me that it stops in the stomach area.
thank you for contacting us. VP shunt tip should end in the peritoneum. some times tip can migrate but should not be in the abdominal organs (visera). Some times this can be a problem if it goes in to small sacs in the abdomen causing distressing pain. make sure this is not infected. please see ur neurosurgeon ASAP.
