Which Medication To Be Taken For Diabetes?

Hi, I'm a patient with diabetes for 13 yrs. At present, I'm taking Hassanbest medicine + Janumet everyday, but it seems not to be effective. My friend advised me to take Glucovance 500 mg/5mg and Galvus Met 50/1000 mg. I'm wondering if I should follow his advice. Sometimes I check my blood sugar level early morning before breakfast, it's around 7.8-8.0 mmol/L.

Looking forward to hearing from you, doctors.

Many thanks,

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your query and understand your concerns.

when a patient comes to the clinic with such a presentation, the procedure followed is first have a check of HbA1c which is glycosilated Heamoglobin an indicator of glucose levels for the last 3 months.
If it is higher then, you should go for Metformin 500 if obese or sulphonyl urea drugs like gliclazide, glimipiride etc. Doses will be adjusted after series of blood sugar level recordings. Once the dose is adjusted it is followed there after with follow up. No self medication is advised for diabetes. So, please consult a diabetologist near by and let him decide the dosages and drugs.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.
