Which Specialist Doctor Should Be Consulted For Numbness In The Legs?

My 84 year old mother has spinal stenosis. Lately, her feet and legs have been going numb and depending on the shoes she is wearing, cant get her feet to move. Is there some type of specialist I should take her to? she is currently receiving epidurals for the pain but this problem with her feet and legs is getting worse. Sometimes her ankles look a little swollen with a purplish hue. Please advise. thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have to consult neurophysician for numbness in the legs. It may be due to she is suffering from peripheral neuropathy or sensory neuropathy. Pedal edema may be due to anemia or dependent edema or cardiac or renal failure. Please consult your doctor neurophysician/cardiologist they will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
