Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Which Specialist Should One Consult For Early Stage Dementia?
My 83 year old father has been diagnosed with early stage dementia. He has a GP who he has seen for 40 years. I think he should now see a specialist to talk about proper screening for any other underlying health issues, and treatment plans. His GP said he has tried two drugs on other patients, but they "don't work". What do you recommend? thank you.
Dear, I would recommend you to go and see a neurologist as soon as possible. Your concern is valid and the reasons stated above are all relevant. He needs a proper assessment of his condition and after considering other health issues the specialist needs to start a treatment plan. Hope I have answered your question. Manoku Eni M.D.
