While Suspecting Typhoid In Mother Is It Safe To Breast Feed?
My wife seems to have typhoid (the test results are not in yet, but she seems to have the symptoms), and she was prescribed antibiotics which she started taking this morning. She has been feeding out 1 month old baby, but the baby starts crying while she is feeding (something which has never happened before). Please advice on if she should continue to try to feed, or if there is an alternative
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
Even if it is confirmed typhoid she can breast feed her baby. Its only suspected typhoid. I suggest to do blood culture to the mother and if its sterile to stop the antibiotics. If it is viral there is good chance that the baby might also get the fever and then if needed see a pediatrician.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health. Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
