White Clumps Of Discharge From Vagina, Burning Sensation. Taking Treatment For Bacterial Infection. Suggestions?

6 days ago I was put on metronidazole for a bacterial infection. On the third day I started to feel symptoms of a yeast infection. I call my doctor and she perscribed me one tablet of diflucan. On the 4th day I noticed white clumps of discharge in my vagina. This morning I wipe after urinating and notice dirt like looking discharge only when I wipe and I do see it in my vagina. When I urinate it still burns. What could this be? What can I do?

Hello.

Your doctor has based his/her diagnosis simply on clinical presentation, I am unsure if he/she has even physically examined you. The first step to a diagnosis is a physical examination which should always be followed by laboratory investigations (in your case a urine examination and/vaginal swab at the least) to confirm the suspected diagnosis.

Based on this information treatment should be started. I would advise you to go about the above mentioned basic investigations which can be followed by further screening for sexually transmitted infections (if the first two investigations do not yield a conclusive result).

Hope this helps.

Take care.
