Why I Notice A Smell Every Now And Then And Metronidazole Gave Me A Worse By Infection?

I went to my gynecologists worried about the white discharge that I always seem to have and noted to him that it has had a smell in the past but the smell is on and off. He too a culture and found that I have BV so he prescribed me metronidazole. The metronidazole did not clear up the discharge but instead I seemed to have a strong odor only after I took the medicine. Is it possible that what happens usually is my body gets rid of the infection on its own which is why I only notice a smell every now and then and also is it possible that the metronidazole gave me a worse bv infection?
