Tonsillectomy in children can prevent recurrent throat infection, as tonsils will become foci of recurrent infection due to trapping of the food material in the tonsillar crypts. Recurrent infections will reduce the immunity of the body and the tonsils will become more fibrotic (sort of rubbery in consistency). If surgery is done on a fibrotic tonsils then the bleeding will be more and takes more time to recover than in the children. Apart from this the enlarged tonsils in some individuals can cause long-standing obstruction of the airway leading to various other medical problems. Hence children undergoing tonsillectomy will fare better than the adults.
tonsills are the security guards or barriers situated in the throat which protects or kills or stops the bacterial/viral infections further going to respiratory tract or elimentary canal.Without them the immunity is effected and leads to more prone to RTI infections. As in child as compare to adult ,there is already poor or less immunity in them and tonsillectomy leads to further deterioration of situation and thus made child more prone to RTI or elimentary diseases
Complications after tonsillectomy can cause massive bleeding from the post-operative wound, which can happen 1-2 weeks after the surgery. In 1-2 weeks post-tonsillectomy, healing usually occurs. When a scab is accidentally removed, it may cause massive bleeding (since there are blood vessels reforming under the scab). In adults, the risk is approx.1-3% higher simply because they have bigger and more numerous blood vessels as compared to child.
----children normally tend to be healthier then adults, plus children`s bodies are designed to heal faster then adults bodies are designed to do.
----co-morbid sitaution in adults is another factor of complications in surgical procedures especially common disorders hypertension and diabetes
