Why Am I Having Shooting Pain In My Leg While Suffering From Osteoarthritis?

I started having pain in my ankle when walking, It runs up to my hip. My dr. said it was osteoarthritis. Now I still have severe pain in ankle and some swelling, but do not have knee pain. It only hurts when I walk on it, as long as I am sitting it doesn't hurt. When trying to walk, the pain shoots up the side of my leg to my hip. I have had x rays, but there was no fracture in ankle or back.

Hi, thank you for asking healthcare magic
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease caused by the loss of cartilage in joints. This enables the bones in the joint rub against each other during movement and producing pain. It often affects weight bearing joints although other joints may be affected.
Management involves the use of pain killers like acetaminophen or non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, physical therapy and lifestyle modifications like exercise and weight loss if you are overweight.
If these measures do not help, then joint replacement surgery may be recommended.

I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be delighted to answer more questions from you.
I wish you good health
