Why Am I Having Uncontrollable Itching After Holding Marigold Branches?
I am having uncontrollable itching after holding marigold branches while my husband tied them up. It did not start until I went out into the sun. I am not aware of having any allergies, nor have I ever heard of allergic reactions to marigolds. Can you share your thoughts about this?
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. Marigold belongs to Astraceae family of plants which has similar allergens as those present in parthenium ( Congress weed or congress grass). There are cases of allergy reported to marigold and also dahlia, chrysanthemum, sunflower, etc which all share a common allergen to parthenium weed. Once your body is sensitized to the plant, you could develop allergies every time you touch the plant. Sunlight exposure can worsen the allergy and it is termed as "photosensitization". Hence, in future, it is better that you avoid contact with the above mentioned plants. Hope this information helped you. Take care.
