ENT Specialist 's  Response
hi and thanks for the query,
there are many causes for loss of sense of smell.
most common cause is viral upper respiratory tract infection.
many times the sensations come back after a few days but sometimes the recovery is incomplete.
other causes are head injury, polyps in the nose.
majority of times the cause remains undetermined.
loss of taste is secondary to loss of smell.
please consult an ENT to come to a diagnosis.
you may require nasal endoscopy.
regards,
Dr Rajkishori.
