Why Are My Fingers Swollen And Hot To Touch?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...my dad is 80 and in the hospital. His left hand was swollen and hot to the touch. Couldn't move it. After 1 night it went down and was looking better. He woke up this morning and his left thumb was swollen and hot and couldn't move it and his right hand was hurting and hot to the touch. He has 100.5 fever. Doctor said their was shadowing on his chest x Ray. No one can tell us what might be wrong.
